If the word shopping sounds a little something like music to your ears, then you are in for a real treat. There are four uniquely fun and totally new boutiques on the block. Even the word "boutique" brings with it an air of spunky sophistication that makes any woman feel the need to go shopping. It's a new year, and what better way to celebrate than with a girl's day out on the town hitting up some local favorites and checking out these new hot spots.

Sunflower Stuff & Things

Imagine yourself walking down a snow-covered street, coffee in hand, and a bright yellow sunflower greets you as you walk into the first store. The store responsible for bringing you this ray of sunshine is none other than Sunflower Stuff & Things. Mary Boyd, the owner, has always been fascinated with the stories behind one-of-a-kind vintage pieces and loves to revel in the magic of "a find." Sunflower is best described as a vintage shop with a little bit of everything everywhere. There is everything from clothing to jewelry to items for the home. It is a room full to the brim with hidden treasures and one-of-a-kind pieces. The store will continue to evolve and change as time goes on just as Boyd believes "a store is kind of like a living thing."

BC Boutique

Later in the day you might want to check out what's new at the Body Connection. Gail Heil and Linda Voge started BC Boutique inside the Body Connection, because they believe "life is too short to wear boring clothes." They want to "give women confidence to wear what they want to wear," as Heil says. Style inspiration comes from anywhere and everywhere for these two lovely ladies, and they love to work one-on-one with shoppers to help them complete a look or give them new ideas to expand their style. As you peruse the racks you will be reminded that "when in doubt, add glitter." One customer even mentioned feeling like Jennifer Lopez with her personal stylists. It's this lost art of personal customer service and the flare for unique outfits that puts BC Boutique on the map.

Roots Boutique and Salon

If all that glitter is not quite for you, getting back to your roots may be a good idea. Roots Boutique and Salon that is. Roots offers contemporary, classic and timeless pieces to help you build a wardrobe that will stand the test of time. Carol Markovic and her husband, Scott, own the boutique and booth-rental salon. However, the style inspiration comes not only from Carol Markovic but from her twenty-something daughters, Morgan Markovic and Callie Stein, as well. Carol Markovic refers to Morgan Markovic's style influence as a bit "more kicky" and Stein's as "contemporary," while she herself lends more to the classic, clean lines. But don't let that fool you, because at Roots classic means anything but stagnant or boring. They've just added a new limited maternity section to the store as well as a few winter-weather exercise essentials.

Apricot Lane Boutique

Next, how about a quick trip to Los Angeles to scope out the latest fashion trends happening right now? Well there's no need to spend oodles on a plane ticket just yet; first, head on over to Apricot Lane Boutique, "where LA meets North Dakota," as owner, Loni Bienek, likes to say. She and her girls have already been there, done that and brought the latest trends right to Bismarck. You will find everything from chunky sweaters to stylish boots to funky hats and Pink Pewter headbands, a favorite of Carrie Underwood. Apricot Lane also hosts fashion parties for special events, such as birthdays and bridal showers.

The possibilities are endless, and the New Year is just beginning. It's the perfect time to shake things up, update your wardrobe, and try a new trend. And what better way to do so than by hitting up these great new boutiques? Be bold, be unique, and be sure not to miss out on all the great shopping.
